The following is a review of the movie “Overboard”

by Marc Primo.

“Overboard” Eugenio Derbez's latest grab at stardom with non-Hispanic viewers in the U.S. after “How to Be a Latin Lover.” Derbez is the funniest thing in both movies.

A superstar in Mexico, Derbez struck box office gold in the States with the romantic 2013 comedy “Instructions Not Included.” He is an easy to love, charismatic actor who can be funny in an ample range. Even when faced with ridiculous situations, his role maintains grounded.

Overboard focuses on the unlikely love story of "Leo" (EUGENIO DERBEZ) a selfish, spoiled, rich playboy from Mexico's richest family and "Kate" (ANNA FARIS), a working-class single mom of three hired to clean Leonardo's yacht.

After firing humiliating and refusing to pay Kate, Leonardo trips and falls overboard while drunkenly making his way through the yacht. Leonardo wakes up on the Oregon coast with amnesia.

This reaches the news, and Kate's best friend (Eva Longoria) convinces Kate to pretend she's her husband, which gives her a cook and babysitter so that she can study for exams while getting payback for Leo's (Derbez) behavior. A harsh premise, but it's all for a good cause.

The movie's laugh out loud moments come as Leonardo adapts to his chores and responsibilities, manipulated by Kate. The contrast of living as a member of the 1% and Kates humble abode was hilarious. Kate convinces him he has a drinking problem, so he starts attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings which help drive the evolution of his character toward a more decent humble person.

Eventually, he earns his place with the new "family" and co-workers. But, with Leonardo's billionaire family still out to find him there is always a tension as to when the memories might come flushing back. Will it end up breaking the alternative reality Kate imposed on Leonardo?
