You either love or hate Rocky Balboa and all seven installments of the franchise that dates back to 1976. There is really no in between so if you fall into the latter category, stop reading now.

As for those who have rooted for the “Italian Stallion” all these years, this eighth installment in the Rocky series will not disapppoint. As a matter of fact, it connects with a solid one-two combination that jabs at nostalgia and finishes with a knockout boxing sequence from rookie director Steven Caple Jr. that would make Sylvester Stallone proud.

Creed II picks up three years after Adonis Creed’s narrow loss to Ricky Conlan which earned him the respect of Rocky, his love interest, and boxing pundits. This time, however, he is up against something bigger than he ever imagined; bigger not in terms of weight division, but a legacy that continues to haunt both Adonis and Rocky himself some 33 years later.

His next fight is not only for glory, but to conquer his demons in the form of Ivan Drago’ son, Viktor. If you are still reading this, then you must have followed the Rocky story blow by blow that there’s no need to explain what Ivan Drago did to Adonis’ father, Apollo, in the ring three decades ago.

Ultimately, Creed II remains faithful to every Rocky movie’s central message about the importance of family, and knowing what is and isn’t worth fighting for. So if you still happen to be reading this far and haven’t seen a single Rocky movie yet, Creed II just might be the one that will pique your interest and adulation for the G.O.A.T. fictional boxing icon.
